Ponies and Horses
The well-being of the pony or horse is essential, and the appropriate weight of carriage and drivers must be considered. We are indebted to the owners who bring their ponies and horses to the sessions. In the summer of 2010, we were unable to offer carriage driving to several of our disabled drivers as two of our larger horses became unfit for driving and we were unable to find a suitably sized replacement to have on loan. The committee made the decision to buy a handsome 14.1h.h cob who was already RDA assessed and can be ridden or driven. He has proved to be a great asset to the club as he is patient and reliable, yet responds to the challenges.
More recently we found Mario who is in training to be an RDA pony so he visits each week to learn the ropes. Mario is a fantastic little 11.3 pony with a great personality who loves nothing more than heading out carriage driving, meet him and our other horses at our weekly Wednesday sessions at Merrist Wood.
